Proposals to reopen Westdown quarry – public drop-in session

Local residents were able to review our plans to update the existing conditions for Westdown quarry at a public drop-in session held at our Whatley quarry offices.

The session gave local people a chance to review our plans, including the latest information supplied to Somerset County Council last year as part of our Regulation 25 Additional Information.  It was also an opportunity to share detail on the socio-economic benefits of our proposals and our proposed progressive restoration scheme.

Land, planning and development manager, Trystan Mabbitt, said: “Our initial pre-application consultation took place online due to Covid restrictions at the time, so hosting a face-to face drop-in session allowed us to share the latest information face-to-face.

“This included more detail on how our proposals for Westdown quarry will deliver a transformative legacy project through the progressive restoration of the adjacent Asham Wood void providing ecological and biodiversity enhancements, as well as highway improvements and safer access for pedestrians and horse-riders.”
