Three-peaks challenge

Driver Simon Lawes-Cole’s bid to complete the tough Three Peaks challenge didn’t go to plan after he fell into a waterfall and damaged his knee on Ben Nevis.

Simon, who lives in Stamford, said: “I manage limp up Ben Nevis but only manged to get halfway up Scafell Pike and Snowden.”

But he was still able to raise £500 for Wheelpower, which was doubled by the Heidelberg Materials charity match fund. Last year Simon raised a similar amount for the same cause by completing a 100-mile London-Essex bike ride.

He chose the charity, based in Stoke Mandeville, which encourages wheelchair users to get involved in sport, as his son Lewis is wheelchair-bound.
