Students study sustainability

Shap Beck quarry has welcomed two sets of visitors, GCSE pupils studying sustainability and members of the Agricultural Lime Association who wanted to see how their fertiliser is made.

Thirty-three students from Sandbach High School for Girls spent an afternoon at the Cumbrian site hosted by unit manager Peter Scott and assistant unit manager Jenna Roberts.

“We showed them the restored areas and explained how restoration works, and how we recycle water through our lagoons,” said Jenna.

“Earlier in the year, six members of the industry association spent an hour touring the site so they could see the process of producing lime from limestone, from the rock face to the milling plants.”
