500 sandbags filled for community at risk of severe flooding

Well done to employees from our Shap Beck quarry in Penrith, Cumbria, who have dedicated their time to supporting the local parish council and surrounding areas at risk from flooding.

In response to reports on Storm Dennis, the team of six filled and delivered over 500 sandbags to properties and businesses likely to experience further flood damage in Shap, Bampton, Orton and Little Strickland.

Jenna Roberts, assistant unit manager at the quarry, said: “Shap village and neighbouring areas were severely flooded earlier in the month and we wanted to do something to ensure the protection of the communities’ facilities against further damage. Both residents and business owners were extremely grateful, and thanked us for our initiative, quick response and community spirit.”
