Heidelberg Materials donates stone to improve facilities for Royal Crescent Allotments

The Heidelberg Materials Penderyn quarry has donated 5 tonnes of Gabion stone to Royal Crescent Allotment Society in Merthyr Tydfil.

The society had developed a woodland walk, for which they have been granted the Green Flag status by Keep Wales Tidy for the last two years. They have also established a visitors’ area within the allotment where parties for local schools are hosted.

School are able to visit the site to learn about wildlife and growing flowers and vegetables. This activity has been ongoing for three years and they are hoping to expand even further. During one week up to 155 children aged 3 to 6 were hosted.

Society member, Robert Hamilton said, “We have finished using the stone you so kindly gave us and have been able to build a well, a dry stone wall, a bank at the edge of the area next to the pond as well as a dry riverbed. It has added greatly to the area we have developed for use by the community and everyone here at Royal Crescent is delighted with the outcome. Thanks so much for your donation, it has been greatly appreciated.”
