Crown shines at Batts Combe quarry to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

A giant crown is shining brightly at the top of our Batts Combe quarry in Cheddar to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The five-metre-high crown is being illuminated at night and is visible for many miles around. The quarry has become well known locally for its lights, which are created by production supervisor Shaun Hartland. They began with a star at Christmas time and have since included a giant poppy to acknowledge Remembrance Day and a red Valentine’s Day heart.

Unit manager Simon Parkes said: “We know that local people really enjoy our lights and look forward to seeing what we are going to do next.

“Creating a recognisable crown was a challenge but we hope that it will help the local community celebrate this important royal occasion.”
