We would like to thank all those who attended our Whatley quarry open day on Sunday April 23 and for the many messages of thanks we have received from those who enjoyed their visit.
Interest in the event was considerably more than we had anticipated, with over 5,000 people attending – many arriving within the first hour – around five times as many as at similar events at other Heidelberg Materials sites.
Unfortunately, this meant that considerable traffic queues built up, which is why we took the decision to ask those planning to attend to delay arriving, to alleviate pressure on local roads. We apologise to those who had to wait to enter or decided to change their plans.
Given the level of positive feedback we have received, we will look into holding a similar event in the future and will consider if it should be ticketed event to avoid any disappointment.
