Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge

Ketton planning engineer Barry Germany and his son Jacob, 18, were part of group of ‘Dads and Lads’ who took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for George Robinson.

George, also 18, is wheelchair bound after breaking his neck in a rugby match on a school tour to South Africa in 2015.

George and Jacob played rugby together at Stamford Endowed School and at Stamford Rugby Club.

Some 40 people took part with the aim of raising funds to purchase a wheelchair which gives George the ability to stand up and be at the same level as all us This gives him huge confidence and self-esteem, to date the fund raising has exceeded expectations with a grand total of over £12000. Heidelberg Materials contributed £500 via its community fund.

The Three Peaks Challenge covers 24 miles and rises 5,200 feet and takes on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Wernside and Ingleborough, which have to be completed in less than 12 hours.

After the event, Barry said:” all the aches & pains were worth it when we saw the video of George in his wheelchair on #teamgeorge. The smile on his face is a picture, please have a look yourselves and many thanks to all who took part and donated.”
