Rescue responses are put to the test

Cambridgeshire Search and Rescue carried out a series of training exercises at Needingworth quarry covering confined spaces, open water and bank searching.

The weekend event was organised by general foreman Ian Ballard with assistance from LEAD trainee Stuart Parker and plant operator Chris Ivatt, who acted as a “casualty” in the confined space scenario.

Wayne Bent, search manager for the volunteer group, said the day had been a big success. “It was a great opportunity for our volunteers to gain experience and for the quarry staff to see how search and rescue teams operate. We look forward to working with Heidelberg Materials again in the future.”
